Shopkeeper's Privilege

Under shopkeeper's privilege, a customer cannot bring an action for false imprisonment against a shopkeeper who detains that customer if:

1. there are reasonable grounds to believe that a theft has occurred;

2. the detention is conducted in a reasonable manner; and

3. the detention is limited to a reasonable period of time to make an investigation.
